Ellamay Mantie is a Canadian cellist known for her collaborative spirit and passionate performances. She is an avid chamber musician, recently sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Noah Bendix-Balgley, Remi Pelletier, Jeffrey Meyers, and Andrew Wan. She also performs with the Orchestra Symphonique de Montreal as a substitute, and has played in their Virée Classique summer series. Currently pursuing her Masters degree at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Alison Wells, she previously studied at McGill University under the instruction of Brian Manker.

During her time at McGill she performed as a member of the Lyra Quartet, founded in 2023. Over the course of her degree, the group attended two summer festivals, performed several concerts in the community, and made finals at the McGill Chamber Music Competition where their performance was praised as “both rigorous and profoundly human” (Pan 360).

Ellamay’s background in traditional folk music informs her musical voice and inspires her to explore a wide range of creative endeavors. She enjoys a frequent partnership with Canadian composer Fiona Marchetto, for whom she has premiered several works. Recently, they collaborated on an electroacoustic “Prologue” to Bach’s second suite, created for a seminar led by Matt Haimovitz. Upcoming projects include the UK premiere of Marchetto’s works for solo cello. Other creative activities have included studio recording for short films and album demos. â€‹
